The past few years have been rough for parents, teachers and children.  There is no question that teaching in 2022 looks very different than it did in 2019.  Teachers are part of the front line against Covid and they are exhausted and tired.  Yet, they keep showing up every day despite the challenges of extreme staffing shortages; confusing and complicated guidelines that are constantly changing; and more and more children who are emotionally, socially and academically behind due to the Pandemic.  So let’s show our support and gratitude for what they are doing by thanking them today!

It is easy to thank a teacher without having to spend a dime.  A quick email or note from a parent and child that says how much you appreciate what they do and notice the hard work and effort that they continue to give in these difficult times will go a long way!  Children can also draw a picture or write a poem saying why they are thankful for their teacher and what they have learned from being in their class.  Another easy way to thank a teacher is to call or send a note/email to the Principal letting them know how well your child’s teacher is doing their job.  Parents and children can also volunteer to help out in the classroom. If you want to show your appreciation through a small gift, consider donating old books, extra classroom materials or even baking a homemade treat!

Patience, kindness, respect and empathy for all of our teachers is the best thank you of all!  Remember we are all in this together: teachers want to be in school teaching children just as much as parents want their children to be in school learning. Although we will get to the other side someday, let’s make it a little easier by practicing and showing gratitude for our teachers today!
